Class Descriptions

Teachers are the only qualified people who can accurately determine what level you/your child can be placed. Age and years of experience factor into what classes you/your child are placed, but that is only a part of the guideline. Maturity, respect for self and others, and the ability to learn at a rapid rate are carefully examined

Pre-Dance Mix
Ages 3-6 years
Basic ballet terminology is introduced in this class consisting of ballet, rhythm, coordination and free dance for our youngest students.

Beginning Children’s Ballet, Levels 1-3
Suggested starting ages 6-12 years
With 3 separate levels, classes are divided into two parts: those taken at the ballet barre and those taken in the center of the room. This class is designed to teach ballet terminology, and to get the beginning dancer moving.

Intermediate Ballet, Levels 1 & 2

Suggested ages 10-13 years
In this class, students with previous ballet dance experience are encouraged to enroll. The music and exercises become more sophisticated, requiring a heightened sense of performance, as students build a stronger dance vocabulary.

Advanced Teen/Adult Ballet
Ages 12+ years
This level is the culmination of study and hard work. Previous ballet dance experience is required. The exercises and steps combined demonstrate technical skills already acquired. Challenging barre and centerwork.

Beginning Teen/Adult Ballet & Intermediate Teen/Adult Ballet
Ages 13+ years
This class is for the teen or adult with no prior dance training, or for the student who is re-introducing ballet back into their lives. Basic ballet terminology, barre and centerwork combinations will be executed.

Pre-Pointe
Ages 11+ years
This class is for our “between teen” and teenage plus students with no prior pointe experience. This is an introductory class for the novice pointe dancer. Instruction will be primarily at the barre so the students can gain the correct amount of strength before learning to dance in the center. Students enrolled in this class must also be enrolled in a ballet class.

Beginning Pointe
Suggested ages 11+ years
Beginning Pointe is for students with very little or no pointe dance experience. Students enrolled in this class must currently be enrolled in ballet.

Int/Advanced Pointe
Ages 12+ years
Students must have previous pointe experience or demonstrate the required strength to perform the necessary skills to dance on pointe. Students enrolled in this class must also be enrolled in ballet.

Beginning Children’s Jazz & Int/Advanced Children’s Jazz
Suggested starting ages 6-12 years
Beginning Jazz is designed for students with no prior or very little jazz dance experience. A large portion of this class is devoted to stretching, conditioning and emphasis on proper placement and technique. A new dance combination is learned weekly.

Int/Advanced Teen/ Adult Jazz
Suggested ages 13+ years
Advanced Jazz increases the complexity of combinations and emphasizes the further development of technique and style. Students will master multiple turns, quicker jumps and difficult progressions. A new dance combination is taught weekly.

Beginning Teen/Adult Jazz
Ages 13+ years
A class for the teen or adult with no prior jazz dance experience, or for the student who has been out of dance for a period of time. Current dance styles along with beginning placement and technique are studied.

Beginning Children’s Tap & Intermediate, Advanced Children’s Tap
Suggested starting ages 6-12years
Beginning/Intermediate Teen/Adult Tap & Intermediate/Advanced Teen/Adult Tap
Ages 13+ years
The beginning classes are structured for students with no or little tap dance experience, whereas the intermediate and advanced levels offer a much more in depth tap experience. Come join this highly energetic class and get a great tap workout while learning basic rhythms and funky combinations.

Children’s Hip Hop
Suggested starting ages 6+ years
A fun and funky class is taught to students with or without previous dance experience. Current dance styles plus floor moves are introduced. A new dance combination is learned every week.

Beginning Teen/Adult Hip Hop
Ages 12+ years
An all out funky, fun class for students with no prior dance training. “Old” and “new” school moves are introduced in this MTV-style designed class. Contemporary music and moves are taught. A new combination is learned every week.

Intermediate/Advanced Teen/Adult Hip Hop
Suggested ages 12+ years
This is a lively class for students with prior dance or gymnastic training. Cheerleaders or dance team members are encouraged to enroll as well. “Old” and “new” school styles are taught. More difficult floor and “gymnast” type moves come into play with current music. A new dance combination is learned every week.

Modern
Ages 13+ years
This is a class where you will learn the basic origins of modern dance. Stretching, floorwork, core and body centering are taught. Basic ballet background is required for this class.

Lyrical
Ages 13 and up w/ prior ballet or jazz experience
Contemporary movement, mixed in with classical ballet technique, danced to today’s music makes this class a unique and moving experience. We request that you have prior ballet experience before attending this class.

Ballroom
All Ballroom classes are for 6 week periods.

Belly Dance Technique
Description: Ancient dance art form created by women for women that works and tones muscles of the body by using isolated circular motions.
Ages: 12 and up
Clothing: Loose pants, supportive half tops, hip sashes (that will be available for purchase), barefeet or ballet/jazz slippers

This is a continuously run 6 week class.
